Eureka Valley is a charming residential area below Twin Peaks with hilly, tree-lined streets. Hidden Gem
The Saturn Street Steps Park is a secret pathway between Saturn and Ord Streets. The steps are bordered by beautiful gardens maintained by local volunteers, with benches for taking in the scenery and the views.
Historical Point
In 1886, the new Market & Castro Street Cable Car line opened Eureka Valley to development. The neighborhood's small wood-frame cottages and two-story flats were built to house working class Scandanavian, Irish, German, and Italian immigrants. In the 1960's The Castro become a predominantly gay neighborhood after servicemen discharged from the military settled there.
